You Blog, but is anyone care? (Web worker daily)

I have noticed that bloggers tend to fall into two camps: the Gropers, who want to know everything and constantly monitor Analytics for their positions. and people who don't really worry about who reads their positions and rarely check analytics. For some time, I was one of these checked constantly analytical fixated people, but lately I've been occupied, and I find myself descend into a State where I can rarely remember to search for.

As we approach the end of the year, it is a good opportunity to take a step and look at some of the data to see which of your blog posts get attention and those who have been generally ignored. You can do much more to take a look at your standard analysis package kick. Here are some tools and tips to give you a deeper look at the question of whether people are attention to your blog posts.

A standard analysis, such as Google Analytics, Kit is a great start, but make sure you dive deeper that just check on the simple chart showing how many people visited your blog. Here are a few of the things I love to watch:

"Traffic sources that show how many people are my blog from various other blogs, web pages or to see what people are looking for when they landed on my blog.Which blog posts engines. Keywords obtained the most visits from search."Analytical page, "which provides a graphical view where people are clicking on the page."

Most web analytic tracking hits using a snippet of code on your page in the order. Feed readers don't perform these small pieces of code, so you also need to use a tool for animal feed, such as FeedBurner, for example. It gives you a better idea on how many people read your blog with a feed reader, and you'll have access to information, as the number of people considered to be a position in your diet if they have clicked on links, etc.

I get a very different picture of those who have read my power of those who visit my blog. For example, every two weeks, I'm a short post on my personal blog with links to blog posts I wrote elsewhere. These blog posts get almost no web traffic and are rarely posted to Twitter, but they get a lot of views in my food and people often click on the links to my other blog posts. You may be surprised by what your data feed differ from other your analysis.

PostRank is a small nifty tool that looks in which posts your blog the most attention on a wide variety of social networks. You can see how many people posted your content, or it commented on Twitter, Google's Buzz and dozens of other social media sites.  It also provides each of your posts a score between 1 and 10, which is an excellent way to see a blow of eye, your blog posts were interesting enough for people to want to share.

There are a few tools that make it easy to see that your blog posts receive attention on Twitter. If you shorten your links with a tool like bit.ly which has integrated analysis, you can see how many people clicked on the link and it retweeted. BackTweets is another great service as Twitter for a URL searches and finds links shortened to this URL, regardless of whether that shorten the link and that they used. It is an excellent way to see when others are posting links to your blog posts.

Google Blog Search also has a little nifty feature that allows you to see the blogs who have a link to your blog just by doing something like this into the search box:

You can view posts a link to a website, blog or section of your blog - basically, everything that you can define a URL. You can then sort the results by relevance or date and the same filter by certain dates or deadlines, as most of Google searches.

What are your favorite tools or tips to look deeper that people are paying attention to your blog posts?

The right way to sell you at work (Forbes)

Recently, I thought how to "hide" updates to someone Facebook status day and if it has changed my life. I am most attacked by a friend whose daily positions describe spike career his Kiriat with world leaders and endless vacation. These updates is a I do doubt my own achievements - or fill me with envy - as much as they did make my friend for blatant self-promotion penchant.

Grew up, my parents taught me not to extol step. We rolled our eyes into long letters Christmas tells the achievements of other families. We just have our languages a neighbour compared to his son, Tom Cruise. My mother hang good report on the refrigerator, but keep their cards in a drawer, where we have undertaken. "Nobody likes a braggart", she said. "Just limit your head and work hard and people will notice."

In pictures: good method yourself sales at work

Thus, step entirely. The more time I spend in the population active, most I know that my aversion to self-promotion can limit my career. I don't assume that people will notice when I'm doing my job well. This is a version of career as the old expression of forest trees: girl takes a white and a large account land, and there is nobody see, is it get promoted?

Like it or not, self-promotion is part of responsible career management. People with all their own achievements land plums assignments and promotions. Actions speak no more weight than the words. (See also: "Why men do not promote women," by Shaun Rein.)

Coach Peggy Klaus, communication and leadership and the author of perhaps! The art of Tooting your own Horn without Blowing it, blame my squeamishness on "myths to boast" - social, cultural and family things that prevent us from talking about our achievements. People fall often or other of the two sides also attractive: subordinates and boorish, humble and ineffective. It is difficult to find common ground. But Klaus said that with the right form of communication, you can share your accomplishments without feeling like a version more thick hair of Donald Trump.

To start Klaus recommends developing a "bragalogue" - a short and strong story that incorporates a few pieces to know who you are and what you've done. Use it as an introduction where you meet people for the first time. When I hesitated with the suggestion, she offered a convincing counter. "If you were asked to describe a person that you care, you might wax poetic," she says. "Why can't do you the same thing for you? She encouraged me to think of a few positive things I could say that about my work and be willing to share to pass with my boss encounters.

William Arruda, President of Reach Personal Branding, says that the first phase of the art self-promotion is performance. "Build a strong personal brand not revealing great people how you are," he said. "It is people showing how great you are." It adds that employees need to understand where they can contribute to the higher value and then demonstrate these things that make them unique. If you are creative, and then draw on that creativity in team meetings. If you organize all aspects of your life, worksheets, and then share your Type A routine with your colleagues and become the office Excel whiz. Take the most important issue for your organization. Nobody else wants to do, so if you embrace this responsibility and succeed in it, people will notice.

If you're an introvert, enlist others while your horn. "Instead of saying that the world what you've done, find other people who are comfortable describing your role", says Arruda. The strategy works in both directions. If you choose broadcast the word on the achievements of your colleagues, they should do the same for you.

Overloading your curriculum vitae (CNN - Ask Annie)

A wealth of experience is an asset, but packing your curriculum vitae with too many jobs is usually a mistake.

By Anne Fisher, contributor

Dear Annie: I was pleased to read your article 8 December market slightly better work for persons over 55 years of age and my own experience confirms recently experience returns to mode with employers: after work more than a year, at the age of 57 years, I have received three interviews during the month.

My question concerns my curriculum vitae. In my career for 40 years now, I have had many different jobs who taught me a wide variety of skills, so I have all put on my resume. A friend me is distracting, so I should omit most jobs, I am busy and list only those which relate more directly to what position I am currently applied for. -Is this correct? Also, what should my resume say over short periods during which I've been between jobs or (more recently) took a "survival job" just to pay the Bills? -Sam Cincinnati

Mr Sam: friend gives you wise counsel. "A common mistake people make when their curriculum vitae is packed with too many jobs, in the hope of dazzling future employers with their wealth of experience," explains Evelyn El Salvador professional writer resume and career coach with useful book, repeats step by step: generate a unique summary in 10 easy steps is now in its second edition.

Unfortunately, this tactic rarely works. "If you include not synchronized with your target job roles, is a red flag for employers, or muddy up your curriculum vitae with too much experience, show several jobs were for short periods of time" says El Salvador. "He can lead them to consider a job hopper or a person who is not in contact with what they must play a particular role - and your resume may be eliminated."

El Salvador suggests you take a look on your current CV with advice from three following mind nine and see what changes might you need to do.

1. Eliminate jobs in short term Job for less than a year, particularly if they relate specifically to employment you are now in search of, should be cut from your resume.

"For example, say that you have worked at a place of 2000 to 2002, another in 2002 and a third party from 2003 to 2009" If this short-term employment in 2002 was left in your curriculum vitae shows a weakness, because the resume is usually written to show only years, not months, "explains El Salvador."

An exception to this rule: entry-level applicants for employment who have had courses which lasted less than a year.

2 Highlight the relevant skills or functions. People generally include non-relevant jobs on their curriculum vitae, El Salvador, notes in order to avoid a chronological gap. If this is your problem, try to activate that apparently non-related former position to your advantage by finding a connection to the job you want now.

"" There all the functions that you made in this position or skills you have acquired, which can be linked in a way any position that you are targeting? ".She asked. "Even if the relevant experience was only a small percentage of your work, you can mention this job and then describe only the relevant portions of."

At first glance, most "survival jobs" seems not related to positions you are applying for the moment, but it is often possible to dig below the surface and strike gold.

For example, suppose you had laid off to a supervisory position and worked as a waitperson at a restaurant in paying bills. It is likely that the experience you had much concerning the effective delivery of customer service and mediation disputes - two valuable skills for any Manager.

3 Not travel too far in time. You can be loaded to your curriculum vitae with too many jobs because you are including the positions that you say 30 years ago. Do not.

"If in the past 10 years, you've had enough experience to show that you are qualified for the position you are seeking now, it is unnecessary to come back later", explains El Salvador.

What happens if your relevant experience was workplan for 10 years?

It is perfect to return if you have 15 years of age, but who said El Salvador, is the limit. For a 35 years old, any hiring manager what happened when he or she was in high school have as to the age of Peter, be so suspicious you inadvertently make skills seem outdated.

"If you want to appear younger dating fewer years on your resume can help this aspect", explains El Salvador.

Similarly, job hunters who, for some reason want to appear as mature and known as possible can make listing jobs who are 15 years in the past.

In both cases, El Salvador says, "once you get your foot in the door for an interview, you can sell yourself on your qualifications and cultural"adjustment."" "Good luck!
